The pace of the recovery in communities damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is accelerating as money and long-term rebuilding plans come together, according to a new study released today by the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana and the Nelson A.

CROWLEY – Vandals struck early Monday morning in various areas of the city of Crowley breaking windows on vehicles including a Crowley Police Unit. In all, 20 vehicles were damaged by the vandals causing damage that ranged from $300 up to $700 per vehicle.

CROWLEY – Providencia “Rita” Johnson, Crowley’s Main Street Manager recently met with and was interviewed by students in Ms. Patty Ronkartz’s and Darla Thibodeaux’s LEAP-UP gifted enrichment classes. Ms. Johnson shared information on the Main Street Program with special emphasis on Crowley.

RAYNE – Recent high school graduates from Rayne and Crowley are eligible to apply for college scholarships given each year by the Crowley-Rayne Cajun Hospitality Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA)

CROWLEY – Armed with 21 warrants on 16 defendants, law enforcement officers from the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadia Parish Narcotic Strike Force and Probation of Parole began executing warrants shortly before day break.

CROWLEY – Jim Rees and Frank Bradshaw were guest speakers at Tuesday’s meeting of the Crowley Rotary Club. They spoke about the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that is approaching it’s one hundredth anniversary.

Judge Raymond Bigelow, a Crowley native who has been serving as an Orleans Parish District Judge in New Orleans since 1992, will be retiring at the end of 2008 after sixteen years of distinguished service on the bench.

A national campaign is underway to make sure motorists are following state laws, like wearing seat belts, buckling up children, possessing automobile insurance, etc. The Ville Platte Police Department received monies for the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign for two weeks in May.
