On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop I Criminal Patrol units stopped a vehicle on I-10, within St. Martin Parish, when troopers observed a red 2008 Ford pick up truck, commit a traffic violation.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has closed the South Farm area on the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) due to flooding conditions.

A new film company, Bullet Films, is shooting a feature film for the SciFi Channel at the old antebellum home on the Catahoula Highway east of St. Martinville.

EUNICE-Funeral Service will be at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. for Evelyn Fruge, 87, who passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice.

The Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) will unveil a major, new attraction on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. in the Cajun Music Hall of Fame located at 220 Duson Ave. (Hwy. 13) in Eunice.

HOUSTON – Claybey (C.P.) Abshire, 72, born on August 19, 1935 in Lyons Point, LA, the youngest of nine children, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his son, Carl and grandson, Brandon.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Carol Bernard Lazard, 70, who died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Crowley American Legion Hospital.

Fr. Emmanuel Etim will officiate.

EUNICE – Individual tickets are available for purchase for the first show of the Eunice Players’ Theatre’s 39th season, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” written by Alfred Uhry. This two act comedy/drama is directed by Gabe Ortego and Angie B. LaCalle.

RAYNE – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held on Friday, April 18 at the fair grounds in Rayne, starting at 6 p.m.

The Survivor Lap will begin at 6:20 p.m. A second lap will take place for family and caregivers.
