Acadia Players to present 7 Nuns in Las Vegas

CROWLEY – The Acadia Players is pleased to present a farce in Two Acts by Natalie E. White, 7 Nuns at Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday
June 13th, 14th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday June 15 at 2 p.m. at the Historic Rice Theatre in Downtown Crowley. The play will also run Friday June 27 at the Gueydan Civic Center. Tickets for the Crowley show are available at the Crowley Flower Shop, (337) 783-1512 and for the Gueydan show at The Gueydan Museum, (337) 536-0443.

The show 7 Nuns at Las Vegas was written and first performed at the University Theatre & Dept. of Speech of Notre Dame in July 1954. This hilarious, family friendly comedy is set in the parlor of the Convent of St. Genesius. It seems an ailing, arthritic nun, Sister Columba has been praying to St. Joseph to send her to a warmer climate. St. Joseph answers her prayers by taking the entire convent to Las Vegas of all places. From there the comedy ensues with nonstop action as the 7 nuns try to make sense of their new surroundings and a casino owner and his show girls learn about ‘contemplating.’

The Acadia Players production will be directed by Diane Wright Hoffpauer, one of the founding members of the Acadia Players. She is excited that we have three mother/daughter teams (Diane and her mother Elaine as Sister Columba); Ricci Arnaud (Sister Edna) & her daughter, Laura Childress (Sister Maria) and Anne Angelle (Sister Rose) & her daughter Courtney (Peaches). The play will also feature a husband/wife team (Russ Faulconer as Mr. Edelman and his wife, Jane as Mother Superior); three newcomers to the Acadia Players stage Charlotte Jeffers as Sister Felicitas, Ruthie Piron as Sister Frances and Robert Landry as Father John O’Brien. There will be two high school actors Morgan Moeller as Baby and Alex Broussard as Boots and a veteran AP actress, Shawn Comeaux as Sister Anne. The entire cast and crew hope you join us for an evening of fun and laughter.

The Acadia Players theatre group was formed in 1993 and has continued to produce quality comedy, drama, musicals, children’s plays and classics since 1993. Past productions include, Steel Magnolias, Nunsense, The Foreigner, Our Town, Daddy’s Dying Who’s Got The Will, and Little Shop of Horrors. Seven Nuns at Las Vegas is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
