Minister’s Corner: Malachi’s warning

We read in Malachi 1:1, “The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.” What we see stated in the Book of Malachi is that the prophet was directed by God to warn the nation of Israel to turn away from their wickedness. All blessing to the nation had ceased from the Lord. The people had fallen into spiritual lethargy. They were filled with cynicism toward the things of God having, as Paul would say, “a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” They went through the ritual and routine, but there was no obedience to God. Malachi came in a similar fashion to what John the Baptist would come, screaming repentance.
Malachi’s warning to the nation Israel is ringing in this nation today. He ends the book with the bitter word “curse.” Today, modern-day prophets have been warning this nation, as well, to “repent for judgement is at the gate.” We need to examine ourselves as the Church. Are we ready to meet the Heavenly Bridegroom at His appearing, or have we also just a form of godliness. Let Malachi’s warning penetrate the heart of everyone who calls themselves Christian. let the Holy Spirit do a work in you today. Let your commitment level toward the Lord rise accordingly.
