RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. – Retired Major Daniel Joseph Pastor, United States Air Force, born in Lafayette, then moved to Crowley as a toddler, died unexpectedly of natural causes on his 75th birthday, March, 28, 2008, at his home in Barre, Vermont, where he lived since 1986. Daniel attended St. Michael Catholic School for years. He also attended De LaSalle Monastery in Lafayette, LA. In 1951, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy for four years of active duty & four years of reserve duty. He was stationed at Treasure Island Naval Base located midway between Oakland and San Francisco, California. He was involved in the Korean Conflict in 1951 on the USS Sicily, United States Naval carrier - second tour of duty, Western Pacific. In 1955 Daniel attended the University of San Francisco Jesuit Catholic School. Then in 1957, he attended St Martin’s University, a Benedictine college in Washington. He finished his final year of undergraduate studies at Seattle University, a Jesuit Catholic School, in 1959. Beginning in 1961, Daniel taught school for two years. In 1963 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. In 1964 Daniel earned a Master’s Degree in Economics from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Daniel had been stationed at Air Force bases throughout the United States, in Goose Bay, Labrador, and in Italy earning innumerable medals of honors of distinction throughout his career. He also traveled worldwide during his lifetime.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Lumay John Pastor, Sr. and Ernestine “Tin” Mary Bordelon LaBorde Pastor and two older brothers, Lora James Pastor, Sr., and Anthony Charles Pastor.

Dan is survived by an only daughter, Alexandra (Alex) Marie Pastor of Barre, Vermont, five siblings: Jean Ann Pastor Hanks (husband, Johnny), Robert Joseph Pastor, Earline Theresa Pastor Spell (husband, Douglas), Lumay John Pastor, Jr., all of Crowley, and Linda Lee Marie Pastor Greenan (husband, Joseph) of Raleigh, N C, sister-in-laws, Helen Sonnier Pastor of Crowley, LA and Lucy Lorraine Atwood Pastor, of Marietta, GA, and many nieces and nephews.

A brief graveside military memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 12 p.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel, Furnace Road, Randolph Center, VT. Bruce W. Judd will be officiating.
