JENNINGS - The Ville Platte High Bulldogs garnered another win here Tuesday night, as they used a smothering defense and an explosive offensive performance to roll past the Jennings Bulldogs 71-40.
With the win, Ville Platte improves to 6-2 on the year and has head coach Tommy Jones feeling excited about the fast start.
“We have been playing really well on the offensive end of the floor,” stated Jones. “It seems that every night we have someone different step it up and get the points for us. Defensively, it was a solid performance from our players.”
Meanwhile the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs dropped to 5-4 on the year, as they could not hold on to a four-point lead after three quarters of play in a 49-38 loss to the Jennings Lady Bulldogs.
Ville Platte is 1-4 in their last five games and head coach Dot Doulet is a little concerned about that trend.
“We cannot continue to give games away in the final quarter,” said Doulet. “We did the same thing against Bunkie the other night. If we can manage to play defense in the fourth quarter like we do in the other quarters, we will be alright.”
Here is a recap of the two games.

Ville Platte (B)
vs. Jennings
Tyran Jones hit a pair of three-pointers and scored eight of his game high 20 points in the opening period to jump start the Ville Platte offense, as the Bulldogs took a 20-14 lead after one quarter of play.
The Ville Platte defense then took over, choking the Jennings offense and holding the Jeff Davis Parish Bulldogs to only 11 points in the next two quarters. Ville Platte’s offense did not falter in the middle part of the game and the Bulldogs led 57-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Ville Platte (G)
vs. Jennings
Neither Ville Platte or Jennings was willing to blink in the first three quarters of play, as the Evangeline Parish version of the Lady Bulldogs held a 33-29 lead as the third period buzzer sounded.
However, Jennings took control of the game in the final quarter, outscoring Ville Platte 20-5 to take the win.
Senior guard Miya McKinney led all Ville Platte players with 20 points.
