Ceasar leads Basile reps on 1A team

It is not often that a football team puts more than one or two football players on an All-State team. When the Class 1A team was selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association, a total of three Bearcats saw their names on the list. While only one member of the team was named to the first team, several other members earned their way as Honorable Mentions.
Kendrick Ceasar earned his way on the team as a kick returner. As a kick returner, Ceasar ran back several kickoffs during the season, including multiple kickoff returns for touchdowns against South Cameron and Merryville. The junior tailback seems to have a very promising future as a Bearcat. He has the ability to impact a football game like no other player has had in a quite a while.
Ceasar also received an Honorable Mention as a running back. He is also a force on defense as a defensive back.
Two other Bearcats saw their names highlighted in the Honorable Mention list of the Class 1A team. Chazz Swift was a powerful defensive lineman that never let up in a football game. Swift racked up 60 tackles and piled up eight sacks to go along with it. The senior’s presence also drew double teams, which allowed for blitzing linebackers and other defensive linemen to get to the quarterback.
Logan Cormier, another senior, was regarded as one of the best offensive linemen in Evangeline Parish, District 4-1A and in Class 1A. Cormier has been a three-year starter and plays both ways at multiple times throughout the game.
Cormier and Swift will be very hard to replace next year for the Bearcats. Ceasar should return and have a huge impact on the Basile football team.
“These guys deserve everything they get,” remarked Basile Head Coach Tony Bertrand. “They performed all year like we asked them to and like they are trained to do. The seniors were leaders on and off their field. It will be hard to replace them.”
Basile had a really good year. They won the District 4-1A championship, posted an 11-1 record and finished in the Class 1A quarter-finals.
