Lady Trojans fall to Lady Bears of CPHS

By: LANCE REED

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to Church Point to face a very talented Lady Bears team. It was a tough match-up against the Class 3A squad, which was to be expected. Coach Stephanie Fontenot was very happy about the way her young team played despite a 57-38 loss to the larger school.
The opening period was a tale of things to come. The Lady Trojans were out scored 17-7 by the CPHS squad. Courtney Cloud hit five points and Heather Fontenot added in a jump shot.
While CPHS held all the momentum, the Lady Trojans never gave up and they battled back. They hit another seven points and managed to stay in the game. Gabbie Andrepont popped the net twice for four points, and Fontenot added a lay-up. The Lady Trojans went in at the half down 27-14.
In the third period, Heather Johnson hit a three-point shot, while Cloud and Fontenot each added a pair of free throws. Natalie Earles and Lauren Poche combined for a strong effort on defense to keep the Lady Trojans close.
Going into the final period, the local girls were down 24-45. Church Point iced the game with 13 points in the last block, while SHHS put up 14 digits. Andrepont ripped off two more baskets, and Poche pitched in with five points.
Poche led the team with nine points, while Andrepont was next with eight points.
The Lady Trojans will host North Central in district action January 14th.
