The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to Oberlin High School to do battle in the Oberlin High School Basketball Tournament. They met a tough Oakhill team in the opening round and fell 54-48. Both teams played very well, but the Lady Rams were just a bit better on this day.
Sacred Heart took an early 16-9 lead. Heather Johnson ripped off 11 points, including three triple-point buckets. Johnson’s shooting guided her to a 12-point night. However, after the first period, the Lady Rams found a way to slow Johnson down.
In the second period, Oakhill bounced back with 16 points of their own. Sacred Heart was held to just six points. Oakhill gained a 28-22 lead at the mid-way point and they didn’t look back from there.
In the third period, the two groups traded baskets. OHS out-shot SHHS 13-11. Gabrielle Andrepont dropped eight points to help her team remain in the game.
Despite being down 41-33, the Sacred Heart girls did not let up. They out-scored Oakhill 15-13 in the final period. Sam Ardoin hit a three-point bucket and Catherine Poche added five points of her own.
The Lady Trojans continued to compete in the Oberlin Tournament and will also stay on the road afterwards. The Lady Trojans (5-7) will travel to Plaucheville to take on St. Joseph’s on January 3rd.
