It does not get any easier for the Mamou Demons tomorrow night, as they will take on perennial Class 2A powerhouse Kinder in a home district contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
After another big loss this past Friday to Lake Arthur, Mamou head coach Brian Brumfield knows that his 0-6 club must continue to stay positive if they expect to find a way to get one in the win column before the proverbial clock strikes midnight on the 2016 season.
“We know we are in one of the toughest districts in the state,” stated Brumfield. “But, we still have life and the kids are still excited about playing. So far the enthusiasm level has not dropped off for us.”
Kinder, the No. 3 ranked team in the state in terms of power points, has not lost momentum from the last five years. The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 on the year with their only loss coming against undefeated Jennings.
On top of that, Kinder averages 44 points per game on offense and has scored 50 points or more in three of the six games contested.
As potent as their offense has been this season, the Yellow Jackets have been equally impressive on defense. Coming into this game against Mamou, Kinder only yields 11 points a game, holding four of their opponents to a touchdown or less.
“It is going to be a tall task to beat those guys,” said Brumfield. “They run more of a Wing-T look this season, but not necessarily running Wing-T plays. There really has been no drop off for them from last year. They look like a championship team. I just told our players to go out and have fun, play hard and let the chips fall where they may.”
