Parish tournament kicks off at SHHS

It is that time of the year again. The time of the year when all of the Evangeline Parish Basketball teams converge on a central location in an effort to determine who is the best in the parish. For quite some time, Ville Platte High has had a stranglehold on the parish championship in both the girl’s and boy’s bracket. Will this be the year that a school unseats the parish champs? Things will begin getting hot at Sacred Heart as they host the 2013 Evangeline Parish Tournament.
The placings of teams are the same on both brackets as it has been in the last couple of years. The times are the only differences.
Things kick off with Basile and Pine Prairie meeting in game one of the boys bracket. The winner of that game will meet Sacred Heart tonight at 8 p.m. Ville Platte High and Mamou collided late Wednesday night and the winner will move on to play tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
The boy’s bracket is a double elimination bracket. Loser’s bracket games start today at 5 p.m. The championship game of the boy’s bracket is set for 5 p.m. Saturday. There is an “if necessary” game set for 8 p,m.
The girl’s bracket started with Basile and Pine Prairie facing off. The winner of that game will face Sacred Heart today at 6:30 p.m. From that point, the winner will advance and meet the winner of Mamou and Ville Platte High Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Like the boy’s bracket, loser’s bracket action begins today at 3:30 p.m. The double elimination bracket continues throughout the weekend. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. There is an “if necessary” game set for 6:30 p.m. also on Saturday.
The quest of every team will be to dethrone the Ville Platte High Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. Pictures and game breakdowns will be highlighted in Sunday’s sports section.
