Pine Prairie tourney begins with several area teams in action

PINE PRAIRIE - The Pine Prairie Invitational Basketball Tournament got underway here Wednesday night and featured a number of teams from around the area, including parish hoop squads Sacred Heart, Mamou and the host team Pine Prairie.
The Tournament will continue until championship day on Saturday. The Gazette will have Friday and Saturday’s games in Thursday’s edition.
Here is a recap of the first two days of the tournament.

Crowley (G) vs.
Sacred Heart
The very first game of the tournament was a hard fought double overtime contest with the Crowley Ladies escaping with a 53-50 win over the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans.
Sydney Shiver led all Lady Trojans with 17 points.

Crowley (B) vs.
Mamou
Mamou only trailed by five points after three quarters of play, but were outscored 21-13 in the final period to fall to Crowley 63-50.
Tralon Arvie tallied 21 points for the Demons.

Northwest (B)
vs. Barbe
Former Pine Prairie head coach Chris Guillory led his new team, Northwest, to a 53-40 win over class 5A Barbe.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Sacred Heart
Pine Prairie’s Darnell Durgin pumped in 21 points in leading the Panthers to a 65-50 win over the Sacred Heart Trojans.

Barbe (B) vs.
Sacred Heart
In an elimination game, the Barbe Bucs held Sacred Heart to single digits in every quarter, as they took a 70-23 win over the Trojans.

Northwest (G)
vs. Plainview
The Plainview Lady Hornets jumped out to a 35-12 lead after one half of play en route to a 59-23 win over the Northwest Lady Raiders. It was the first game for both teams in the tourney.

Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Crowley
In their first game of the tournament, Pine Prairie got 14 points from Tori Bordelon, as the Lady Panthers defeated Crowley 47-23.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Plainview
The Panthers advanced to the finals to be played on Saturday afternoon in a dominating 84-37 win over the Plainview Hornets.
