MAMOU -- The Mamou Demons and Lady Demons hosted the Pine Prairie Panthers and Lady Panthers here Tuesday night in a very important tune-up before district play gets into full swing.
Both boy’s and girl’s games were used as test to see where each of the teams were before the district season really cranks up beginning next week.
For the Lady Demons, their 52-45 win showed that they are on the right track for another district title, but need to clean up some areas before doing so.
Even with the loss, the Lady Panthers proved to themselves that they are ready for anything that comes their way, as they rallied back from a 16 point deficit after the first quarter to put a scare into the Lady Demons.
As far as the Demons go, the 65-55 win over the Panthers proved that they can play with some of the best teams around the area regardless of class.
Pine Prairie found the character that comes from also being down by double digits and making a run at the win.
Here is a rundown of the two games played.

Pine Praire (G)
vs. Mamou
If the first quarter was any indication of how the rest of the game was going to go, one might have bet on a blowout.
The Lady Demons showed no mercy in the first quarter, going on a 15-0 run in the final 2:45 of the quarter to take an 18-2 lead at the end of one period of play.
Mamou extended that lead to 20 points, hitting the first two baskets of the second quarter. Nonetheless, the Lady Panthers would not go away quietly in the night.
The Pine Prairie offense began to respond and the Lady Panthers cut the lead to 11 with 2:37 left to go in the half.
By the time the first half had been completed, Pine Prairie had whittled the Mamou advantage down to eight, 30-22, as they scored seven of the last nine points of the second quarter.
The game would remain tight in the third quarter, with neither team gaining an advantage. As the horn sounded to end the third period, Mamou held a 43-36 lead.
In the final quarter, the Lady Demons managed to stretch their advantage to 12 points, 50-39, with 4:55 to go. But, the Lady Panthers would find a way to work themselves back to within nine points in the next two minutes.
It was too little, too late, as Mamou held on for the win in the final minutes.
Braylin Charles led Mamou with 14 points, while Tori Bordelon and Brianna Bradley each had 11 points for Pine Prairie

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Mamou
Mamou jumped out early and often against Pine Prairie, taking a 16-6 lead after one quarter of play.
That lead continued to increase as the second quarter began with the Demons going on a 14-6 run in the first 3:28 of the period.
Things began to even out a little mid-way through the quarter, as the two teams traded buckets for the next two minutes.
However, Mamou made an 8-4 run to close out the half, as they went into the locker room with a 36-17 lead.
Pine Prairie was able to cut into the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Mamou 15-11.
But, the Demon defense continued the pressure on the Panthers and outpaced Pine Prairie 12-10 in the final quarter.
Russell Edwards led all Demons with 21 points, while Isaiah Payne knocked down 23 for Pine Prairie.
