VILLE PLATTE -- In a war of the Trojans, the Sacred Heart boy’s and girl’s basketball teams took on East Beauregard here Friday night in a pair of non-district contests.
The first game of the double header saw the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans able to over come a one-point deficit at the end of the initial quarter of play to take a much needed 64-44 win over the Lady Trojans of East Beauregard.
In the nightcap, the Sacred Heart boys closed to within two points at the end of the third quarter, but did not have enough left in the engines to pull out the win in a 46-39 loss to East Beauregard.
Here is a rundown of both games.

Sacred Heart (G) vs. East Beauregard
After only winning one of their last seven games, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans came into the game desperately seeking to get back into win column.
With a number of key players out due to injuries, the Lady Trojans have been relying on younger players to fill those voids.
Against East Beauregard, those younger players stepped up early in the game to help pave the path to victory.
The first quarter, however, belonged to the veterans, as Catherine Poche, Moira Parks and Sydney Shiver all tallied points to keep Sacred Heart within one point, 14-13, as the period played out.
The Lady Trojans applied the press in the second quarter, leading to a number of East Beauregard turnovers. Those turnovers led to easy baskets, giving Sacred Heart a 28-17 lead as the half came to a close.
East Beauregard managed to close the gap in the third quarter somewhat outscoring Sacred Heart 13-12. But, the Lady Trojans were not going to let that stop them from turning up the pressure.
In the final period, East Beauregard opened on a 5-2 run. However, Sacred Heart did not let it get closer than that, as they finished the game by outpacing their opponent 18-10 to seal the win. Poche led all scorers with 17 points.
Sacred Heart moved to 7-7 with the win.

Sacred Heart (B) vs. East Beauregard
With only one win on the season, the Sacred Heart Trojans were looking to put together a complete contest against East Beauregard to gain momentum moving forward.
The first quarter looked good for the Trojans, as they worked their way out of an early two-point deficit to take a 15-9 lead at the end of the period.
But, the second quarter was not kind to Sacred Heart, as East Beauregard held the hometown Trojans to two points, poured in 15 of their own and completely turned the tide of the game.
Sacred Heart battled the rest of the way, even cutting the East Beauregard lead down to two points, 32-30 as the third quarter came to an end.
Still, the Trojans could never find the right magic to overtake East Beauregard. Everytime Sacred Heart would put the pressure on, the visiting Trojans had an answer to cap off the win.
With the loss, Sacred Heart is now 1-11 on the year.
