On Tuesday, Born Jones pled guilty to two counts of forcible rape for incidents that occurred early in 2014.
His plea came a mere couple of hours before a jury was to be selected for Jones’s trial.
Jones was originally charged with aggravated rape in this matter.
In the bill of indictment for these charges it stated that “Jones, on or between January 1, 2014 and May 26, 2014, committed the offense of aggravated rape upon A.S. (juvenile victim) by having anal, oral, or vaginal sexual intercourse without the lawful consent of the victim,” who was 10-years-old at the time.
Jones, however, pled guilty to two counts of forcible rape and received a 20-year sentence for each count.
His sentences have been set to run concurrently, or at the same time.
Jones also received a charge for introducing or possessing contraband in any municipal or parish prison or jail.
For this crime, the Ville Platte man was sentenced to two years at hard labor.
This sentence was set to run consecutively with his 20-year sentence.
Total, Jones is set to serve 22 years at hard labor, and he will be given time for credit served.
Following the plea, Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac complimented the efforts of Chris Ludeau, who was the prosecuting Assistant District Attorney in this matter, and Judge Chuck West, who was the presiding judge in this case.
Briganc said, “Chris Ludeau worked very tirelessly preparing for this case and I want to compliment him on the hard work he put in leading up to this trial. I also want to compliment Judge West on the preparation he had to do as well leading up to this trial so that he could make well formed decisions.”
