Mamou duo honored on All-State squad

Their guidance helped get the Mamou Lady Demons to their first district championship in softball in over a decade. While they were members of the MHS softball team, Sidney Lafleur and Chelsey Guillory were instrumental in getting the Mamou girls to the state tournament. Now, the MHS alumni have been honored by the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association.

The duo was honored by the LSCA by being named to the Class 2A LSCA All-State team. Guillory was named as an infielder, while Lafleur was named as a utility player.

“This couldn’t have happened to two more deserving players,” said Mamou Head Softball Coach Kim Manuel. “They were the heart and soul of our team. Sidney is the type of player that never quits. She gives everything she has every time she is out there. Chelsey was our team captain. She was our coach on the field and her spirit kept her going after she was injured in the playoffs. Both were outstanding playoffs in every aspect of the game. They are the kind of kids that make you want to keep coaching.”

Lafleur was named to the all-district team and was the Most Valuable Player on the All-Evangeline Parish softball team. She hit .396 on the year with 10 doubles and four triples. She also hit one home run and drove in 30 runs. She scored 26 times for Mamou and 8 of 10 in stolen base attempts. She posted a .520 on base percentage.

Guillory had a amazing year from third base for Mamou. She hit .438 and posted a .538 on base percentage. She hit three home runs and drove in 18 runs. She belted eight doubles and scored 20 times for her team.

Both MHS players held fielding percentages of over .850 on the year, which is quite impressive considering they played in crucial spots.
