LSU opens preseason as No. 5 on AP polling

With much anticipation, the AP preseason top 25 poll was released this past weekend and the LSU Tigers garnered the No. 5 spot amidst their much awaited 2016 campaign.
The Associated Press began its college football poll on Oct. 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season. The preseason poll was started in 1950.
Here is a list of this years preseason top 25 along with the number of first place votes in parentheses:
