Mamou 12U takes home sectional championship

Winning a title, any title, is not easy. However, the Mamou 12U PONY all-stars did not make it look too difficult,when they took home the PONY Sectional championship last weekend in Crowley.
Mamou was a perfect 7-0 in tournament play, outscoring their opponents 59-8.
With the title, Mamou advanced to the PONY Regional tournament which takes place this weekend in Youngsville.
The Evangeline Parish team will be vying for a chance to move on to the World Series in Highlands, Texas starting on July 14 in Highland, Texas.
Mamou opened the tournament with three pool games. The all-stars defeated Crowley 5-2, Kinder 6-1 and Iowa 6-2.
Here is a rundown of the sectional bracket games played this past weekend by the Mamou all-stars

Mamou vs. Eunice
The Mamou offense kicked into another gear against Eunice in the second bracket game. In a game that only lasted two and one half innings, Mamou ran past the St. Landry based all-stars 19-0.
Mamou pitching struck out five of the first six Eunice batters in the first and second innning. The “Green Machine” took control in the bottom of the first, plating 12 runs. Mamou scored seven more runs in the second inning.

Mamou vs. SLYAA
Mamou remained an offensive juggernaut in the third bracket game; as they pounded the ball on their way to a 13-0 win over the Opelousas based SLYAA all-stars.
The game only lasted two innings, as Mamou plated eight runs in the first inning and five more in the second inning to annihilate their opponent. SLYAA did not get a runner aboard the entire game.

Mamou vs. Kaplan
In the winner’s bracket final, Mamou had to reach down deep to hold off Kaplan in a heart pounding 3-2 win. After scoring two runs in the first inning, Mamou added a single run in the top of the third inning.
Kaplan managed to put two runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Mamou came up big defensively, halting the Kaplan comeback.

The rematch between Kaplan and Mamou was for all the marbles, as they faced off in the championship game. This time around, Mamou made it a lot easier, as they came through with a 7-1 win.
Mamou scattered their runs over four innings, plating at least one run in every inning. Kaplan’s lone run came in the bottom of the first inning.
