Even though the season has come to an end for the Ville Platte Dixie Youth T-ball all-stars, they represented the city with pride and determination.
“The coaches and parents are very proud of these kids,” said head coach Sara Ardoin. “They represented themselves in the best way possible and the City of Ville Platte should be proud this team.”
The all-stars came out of the district tournament last weekend in Leesville with a record of 2-2. That record, however, was not indicative of the play of the team.
“We had a great tournament,” stated Ardoin. “It is just unfortunate that we had to play the number one team two times. The players were definitely disappointed they did not win more games, but the disappointment did not last long.”
According to Ardoin, just getting to play in big tournament was something that the young players will carry with them for a long time.
“This is an experience that they won’t forget,” commented Ardoin. “They were able to make friends with players on other teams, especially at the hotel. This will help them later on if they ever make another all-star team.”
Here is a rundown of the games played at the district tournament.

Ville Platte vs. Beauregard
Ville Platte plated seven runs in the first inning en route to a 17-2 win over the Beauregard all-stars.
The boys in blue added another seven runs in the second inning and four more in the third to close out the game.

Ville Platte vs. Vernon National
In a thrilling game, Ville Platte, down by four in the fifth inning, made a valiant attempt at a comeback scoring two runs against Vernon National.
However it was not enough as Vernon held off the Ville Platte rally to take the 19-17 win.

Ville Platte vs. Moss Bluff
In a loser’s bracket game it was win or go home. Ville Platte was not ready to leave as they rallied from an 11-9 deficit to win 21-13.

Ville Platte vs. Vernon National
In the rematch between Vernon and Ville Platte, the Evangeline Parish crew could not muster very much offense, as they fell 17-2 to Vernon.
Ville Platte scored their only two runs in the first inning of play.
