Trial begins in case of double-murder over slashed tires

The trial for the double murder of the Guidry brothers got underway Wednesday morning in the 15th Judicial District Courthouse in Abbeville.
Accused of killing Micheal Guidry and his brother Gary Jr. is D’Andre Sinegal.
Sinegal is charged with two counts of first degree murder. The state is seeking life in prison for Sinegal.
The first person the state called as a witness is Amanda LeBon, who is 25 years old and the girlfriend of Sinegal.
Laurie Hulin, the state’s prosecuting attorney, asked LeBon what occurred on the morning of Feb. 12, 2013.
LeBon described the morning of the alleged shooting as one she will never forget.
She told the jurors on that morning she awoke, and Sinegal told her his tires were slashed. He asked her if she could drive him to a friend’s home to find out who slashed his tires.
LeBon agreed and took her two children and loaded them into the car and the four of them drove to a friend’s house in Abbeville.
She said Sinegal got out of the car, knocked on the door and was let inside. She went around the block and waited for Sinegal to call her to pick him up.
LeBon received his call and went back to the friend’s house. When she arrived, she testified she saw Sinegal at the front door holding a hand gun.
She said he was arguing with someone and his back was turned to her. “He fired twice,” she said. “I just stayed there, and I let him get into the car.”
LeBon drove off, not knowing if anyone was shot or killed. She told the jurors she became scared for her life because her two children were in the car and Sinegal allegedly had a gun in his hand.
They eventually drove to a sugarcane field between Erath and Abbeville and LeBon said she saw Sinegal get out of the car and walk into woods to get rid of the gun.
“At the time I was trying to figure out a way to get out without getting my children hurt,” LeBon said.
Sinegal’s attorney, Suzane DeMahy, wanted to know why she did not leave or call 911 when Sinegal went into the woods?
LeBon said she was scared that she would drive off a muddy farm-road into a ditch or he would return to the car if she was on the phone with 911.
LeBon and Sinegal headed north and stopped at a Chevron Store south of Lafayette for gas. LeBon said she thought about telling the clerk but elected not to out of fear.
They wound up driving to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, and Sinegal got out of the car and walked into the hospital to go clean his shoes and himself off after walking into the sugar cane field to allegedly get rid of the gun.
LeBon said when Sinegal went into the hospital, she drove off and headed back to Abbeville. She told the jurors the first person she called was LeBon’s mother and informed her what Sinegal allegedly did. Then she called her grandmother and explained to her where she was and for her to call the police.
The Abbeville Police arrived at the location where the Guidry brothers were shot. Jason Hebert, who is patrol supervisor for the police, told the jurors he saw two ladies crying in the front yard of the house. He testified he spoke to them they said two had been shot in the house.
He located both dead males and each had gun shot wounds in their heads.
Hebert said he interviewed the ladies and they told him a guy nicked name, “Dumway” was into the house arguing with the Guidry brothers and fired on them.
Two 9 milli-meter bullet casings were found in the hall where the shooting allegedly took place.
Hebert testified two more bullet casings were found inside the house near the front door.
Abbeville police recognized the nickname “Dumway” as being Sinegal. They brought the two ladies who were in the front yard to the police station. They were shown separate mug-shot lineups of six males to see if they could identify the shooter. Both quickly pointed to Sinegal, Abbeville Police Detective Ryan Boutte told the jurors.
Sinegal made it back to Abbeville after being left at the hospital. The police received a tip that Sinegal was hiding under the house of a relative in Abbeville.
The police zeroed in on the house and Sinegal began to run when they arrived. He was tackled by police officers and arrested.
Days later, LeBon showed detectives where Sinegal allegedly went into the woods to throw the gun. She took them to the location north of Erath. The pistol was located and bagged as evidence.
