On July 3, 2017, the Ville Platte Police Department conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of Telvins Cheeks.
According to a press release from the VPPD, officers first conducted the traffic stop because the Cheeks had “no brake lights or license plate” on the vehicle he was driving.
The release went on to state that “upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, Officers discovered narcotics and a weapon inside the vehicle.”
The 21-year-old Opelousas man was arrested and charged with stop lamps and turn signals required, vehicle license required, no proof of insurance, possession with intent to distribute a schedule I controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of CDS, and illegal carrying of a firearm.
Cheeks was booked into the city jail on a $74,500.00 bond.
