Minister’s Corner: Christ sets us free

Paul wrote in Galatians 5:1 KJV, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Most non-Christians (and many Christians) equate the Christian life with a life of slavery, not freedom. They see being a Christian as following a law - a list of do’s and don’ts. Most non-Christians would say, “My lifestyle is free. I make my own rules. I do whatever I want. You (the Christians) are enslaved to an outdated moral code.”
The truth is, most Christians don’t do whatever they want, unless all they want to do is sin. When a non-Christian attempts to live a righteous life, he quickly discovers that he can’t. He doesn’t have that kind of power within him. He finds himself saying, as Paul said in the book of Romans 7:19 KJV, “For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do.”
None of us, Christians or not, have the power within ourselves to live according to the Law. We are slaves to sin. We are not free. We cannot escape its power. As long as we fight it on our own, it will rule us and dominate us and master us. So what did God do? He sent His son into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and in Him, the Law has been completely fulfilled. And through Him, we have been set free from the requirements of the Law.
