Minister’s Corner: Coming boldly into the presence of God

We can be bold in the presence of our God, for the book of Hebrews says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 KJV)
We can come boldly before God’s throne with confidence, but that does not take away from His awesomeness. It doesn’t take away from His power. It doesn’t take away from His majesty. And our ability to approach His throne with confidence isn’t the result of our own power, or our own goodness. It doesn’t mean that we have reached a level of elite spirituality that gives us access to His presence. Every child of God has this same access. We don’t approach His throne with boldness and confidence on the basis of our character, but on the basis of His character. He is awesome, and yet He is approachable. We have no right to approach God boldly, no right in ourselves, but God has given us the right to do so. We can come into His presence and, as the writer of Hebrews says, “...receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
