Minister’s Corner: An describable gift

Paul writes in 2 Corithians 9:15, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” Some translations refer to an “indescribable gift.”
Christmas is usually thought of as a time of giving gifts. We usually get caught up in the buying and wrapping of gifts to heighten the anticipation of opening those gifts. Some people have a lot of fun wrapping. They put one box after another inside one box after another, each one carefully wrapped with a ribbon to bring you from one massive gift down to a tiny box which may hold a ring. And some gifts you cannot seem to hide even though you wrap them carefully. For example, how do you wrap a bicycle so that you can’t tell what it is? We’ve all had those kinds of experiences. But let me ask you a question, “How do you wrap an indescribable gift?”
When it came to the greatest gift the Lord has ever given this world, His only begotten son, He wrapped Him in prophecy. God didn’t just suddenly drop Jesus Christ out of heaven onto earth. He prepared man for His coming hundreds of years ahead of time. Isaiah 7:14 reads, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call him Emmanuel.” When you wrap something indescribable in something as powerful as prophecy, you will have people anticipating His arrival.
At this time of year, we remember the birth of our Lord. As we think upon this precious gift that the Lord has given to us, let us remember that regardless of what the world may think of Him or are saying about Him, God prepared man for this indescribable gift by wrapping Him in prophecy. That prophecy was fulfilled to the letter. We can rejoice and give thanks at this time of year for God’s indescribable gift.
