EPSO needs help with burglary; VP property taxes due by Jan. 31

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is requesting assistance from the public with identifying an unknown male subject, who recently committed burglary within the parish.
According to an EPSO press release, during the early morning hours on “Saturday, January 23, 2016, an unknown male subject committed burglary at a local restaurant in the Vidrine area.”
Footage of the male subject committing the crime was captured on the restaurant’s surveillance system.
The EPSO is asking that if anyone has information concerning this matter, please contact their office at (337) 363-2161.

Property tax reminder
The City of Ville Platte meanwhile wants to remind residents that the deadline to pay property taxes without delinquent penalties is Sunday, January 31, 2016.
With the deadline being set on a Sunday, the last business day before this date, which will be Friday, January 29, will be the last day to pay property taxes. Property taxes must be paid by 4:00 p.m.
On February 1, 2016, those who have not paid their property taxes will incur penalties.
The penalty that will be set on February 1 will be $51.50 plus one-percent interest. Come March, the penalty will be raised to $90.00 plus interest, and by April the penalty for delinquent taxes will be up to $115.00 plus interest.
According to the city’s press release, the tax sale for properties that have not had taxes paid on them will be August 24, 2016.
The city ask that everyone pay their property taxes by January 29, 2016 to avoid these additional charges.
