The PPHS defense will try to slow down the VPHS offense.

Bulldogs host Panthers for homecoming

Both Pine Prairie and Ville Platte had their issues in their last few weeks. Ville Platte went to Port Barre with a handful of key starters out and fell a score short to the Red Devils. Pine Prairie hosted a very talented, up-and-coming Church Point team and also came up short in the end. The Bears kept the Panthers off-guard by using a very good kicking game and a swift running attack.
This week, the two Evangeline Parish teams collide in Ville Platte. It’s homecoming time for the 2-3 Bulldogs and they are looking to rebound and get the offense up and moving.
Last week, the Bulldogs were stiff on defense and that unit kept the VPHS squad in the game. However, they were left on the field for long periods at a time due to the lack of progress by the offense. VPHS Head Coach Tracy Jagneaux hopes some of that will change this week, especially if they can get some of their key starters back on the field. After that, it’ll be up to the O-line to execute and make the plays happen.
Pine Prairie has found themselves up against some big and fast opponents lately. Like Ville Platte High, lack of offensive production has forced the defense to remain on the field much longer than PPHS Head Coach Robert Davenport would like to see. The Panthers have given up four or more scores in the last three games, while the offense is averaging less than one score.
Which team produces on offense early on will swing the momentum their way. From there, the advantage has to tilt towards Ville Platte High and a defensive unit that has seen the likes of St. Charles and Port Barre in the last two weeks.
Winning at the Dog House is always tough and it will not be any easier on homecoming night for the Panthers. However, Davenport’s knowledge of the game could help the PPHS squad tremendously.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
