4-H Cotton Commodity Cookery Contest winners announced

The 2013 4-H Cotton Food Festival got off to a great start at the 19th Annual Cotton Festival 4-H Cotton Commodity Cookery Contest held Wednesday, October 9, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Seventy-six dishes were entered in the Ground Beef, Seafood and Sugar contests, and there were three entries in the Ambassador contests, which are sponsored by Evangeline Parish Cattleman’s Association, the Louisiana Cotton Festival Association, Mikey’s Donuts and the Evangeline Parish 4-H Foundation.
Parish winners in the Beef Cookery were:
Low Calorie: Laura Elnaggar, Pine Prairie Elementary fourth grade, with Italian Beef and Egg Plant.
One Dish Meal: Sarah Butler, Bayou Chicot Elementary sixth grade, with Mexican Cornbread.
Quick and Easy Main Dish: Hallie Daire, Sacred Heart Elementary eighth grade, with Asian Lettuce Wraps.  
Parish winners in the Seafood Cookery were:
Crab: Kylie LeBas, Sacred Heart Elementary sixth grade, with Cold Crab Dip.
Shrimp: Jake Manuel, Vidrine Elementary fifth grade, with No Roux Seafood Gumbo.
Fish and Other Seafood: Annabeth Briley, Sacred Heart Elementary seventh grade, with Catfish with Cardinal Sauce.
Crawfish: Ava Shiver, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, with Cajun Crawfish Dip.  
Parish winners in the Sugar Cookery were:

The Ground Beef, Seafood and Sugar parish winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the Regional 4-H Cookery contests, which will be held in Crowley in April of 2014. Commodity Ambassador winners will represent Evangeline Parish in the state contest, which will be in held in Baton Rouge in April of 2014.
