Catholic Daughters hold Christmas social

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its Christmas social Wednesday, December 4, at the Our Lady Queen of All Saints Family Life Center. Seated at the head table were court officers Peggy Soileau, Sybil Veillon, Becky LeBas, Tina Dupre, Regent Barbara Delafosse and Father Mitchell Guidry.
Delafosse opened the meeting with a prayer and stated the court’s mission statement of Unity and Charity to all. She wished those with a birthday in December a happy birthday. There was a covered bowl on each table and each member took two M&M candies from it. While Delafosse told a Christmas story, members turned the candy over to form the letters M,E,W or M.
The door prize winners were Bernita Chapman, Velma Bernard, Darnell Firmin, Celia Ardoin, Verna Guillory, Cathy Coldiron, Sybil Veillon, Freida Coreil and Linda Ortego. Those dressed in Christmas attire were asked to come forward and Father Guidry questioned them about the good things they had done during the year. Members included in this activity were Verna Guillory, Cathy Coldiron, Annette Fontenot, Barbara Vidrine, Lynn Landreneau and Virginia Guillory. A beautiful crucifix was won by Verna Guillory.
Each member brought a gift for a needy child and food items for the CDA Christmas baskets, an annual project chaired by Leah Hollier. The food baskets will be prepared on December 23, and members are asked to help fill the baskets. Faithful member Carrie Deville has delivered the baskets for several years, sometimes finishing late on Christmas Eve.
A delicious meal was enjoyed by the members in attendance.
During the January 2014 meeting on Wednesday, January 8, court members will vote for the Catholic Daughter of the Year. The selected member will be honored during the annual installation banquet at the February meeting.
Members were reminded that dues should be paid in January.
