MAMOU — Why leave Evangeline Parish to relax when bliss can be found right in the heart of downtown Mamou?
Rhonda Butler, an esthetician at Bella Salon and Spa in Ville Platte, said, “People come to a hotel to relax, and when they come to relax they are more asking for a full body massage.”
Hotel Cazan in Mamou came under new management in early 2016, and it was at an event reopening the hotel that Butler and Valerie Cahill, who leads the hotel for the group Stella Lea, the group that purchased the establishment from the previous owners, decided to add spa services to the hotel’s list of amenities.
“We collaborated to start a spa in Mamou,” Butler said. “All hotels offer some type of therapy like massage therapy and facials.
Together, Cahill and Butler converted one of the rooms and set it up for facial and upper body massages, but Butler said Cahill began to receive more calls for massage services. The hotel began offering its massages services about six months ago, and those who would like facial services are referred to Bella Salon and Spa.
“It’s been awesome for this small town,” Butler said. “This place (the hotel) is beautiful.”
She continued, “Everyone has been responding well to the spa. They love it.”
Nikkia Williams serves as the masseuse at Hotel Cazan, and the types of massages offered are sports, prenatal, deep tissue and Swedish. For massages prices and availability call 337-468-5100.
Butler said many of the those booking massages are out-of-towners booking rooms at the hotel.
“They’ll call and say, ‘While I’m there, can I get a massage while I’m there,’” Butler said.
Butler said Cahill plan to offer massage specials during Mardi Gras, a time of the year that the hotel is usually booked with many guests.
The two ladies also plan to expand the spa services at the hotel if the need arises.
“As the need for the hotel and family oriented events in Mamou grows, she (Cahill) will add more to the hotel,” Butler said.
She continued, “There is definitely a need for this spa. We would love to see it triple in size.”
