71-year-old beats man who tried to car jack her

On Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at about 10:30 a.m., a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent was notified by a hunter that there was an overturned vehicle in the ditch along Chicot State Park Road.
When the LDWF agent arrived at the scene, the suspect, who was identified as 19-year-old Mario Juan Cardenas, fled the scene on foot.
During the foot pursuit, Cardenas attempted to car jack Janice Reed while her vehicle was at a stop.
According to a Facebook post by Reed’s grandson Randy Smith, when Cardenas tried to steal Reed’s vehicle, the 71-year-old “jumped out of her truck, threw the guy in the ditch, and beat the guy” until the game warden arrived and apprehended the suspect.
During arrest, the LDWF agent found that Cardenas was also in possession of drugs.
Cardenas was booked into the parish jail on charges of resisting arrest by flight, resisting arrest by force or violence, battery on a police officer, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule IV controlled dangerous substance and car jacking.
Cardenas remains incarcerated at this time.
