After deliberating for approximately 45 minutes, a jury of six unanimously found defendant Cody Keith Fontenot guilty as charged on one count of simple burglary and one count of theft of a motor vehicle with a value of $1,500.00 or more Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
Fontenot’s sentencing hearing will be held on November 19, 2015. The habitual offender could be facing up to 22 years hard labor, which is the maximum sentence for the felony crimes he has been convicted of.
At this time Fontenot remains in jail on a $500,000.00 bond set by Judge Chuck West.
During the night or early morning hours on June 27, 2014 Fontenot arrived at Robert Manuel’s home where he proceeded to steal Manuel’s work truck, who was not home at the time. The truck was recovered in Mamou, not far from the residence Fontenot shared with his now wife Sarah Navarre Fontenot.
District Attorney Trent Brignac was pleased with the verdict Assistant District Attorneys Marcus Fontenot and Nicole Gil were able to receive from the jury stating, “We are pleased with the outcome because guilty as charged means the jury found the defendant guilty of the exact charges brought against him.”
