Fontenot remains in hospital after fatal crash

Michael Fontenot, 47, of Duson, who will be charged in last week’s fatal crash that claimed the life of 52-year-old Arleen Soileau, is still in an Alexandria hospital after receiving moderate injuries.
Fontenot is expected to be charged and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail upon his release. He will face charges of vehicular homicide, driving left of center, expired driver’s license, no seat belt, reckless operation, open alcohol container and no insurance.
Fontenot, who was charged with DWI on Thursday after crashing into a ditch, prior to the Friday evening crash, spent the night and much of the next day in jail before he was bonded out. The truck Fontenot was driving on that Thursday was towed. Approximately six hours after his release, authorities believe Fontenot had become impaired once again, which led to the crash on Friday.
The crash occurred when Fontenot veered across the center line on Chicot Park Road and crashed head-on into Soileau’s vehicle. Soileau was pronounced dead at the scene, while Fontenot was airlifted to Alexandria.
