Pine Prairie Council discusses problem with trash in town

At Pine Prairie’s council meeting on Thursday, council members once again discussed the trash problem within the town.
Council Member Debbie Oge said, “I saw that they picked up the mattress and the sofa that was left outside of a house but there is scattered trash there now. There was a man there the other day picking up the trash, but they still left a lot out there.”
Mayor Pro Tem Quint West however, informed the board that he is looking into something that may help with the trash problem that residents have recently complained about.
West said, “We are looking into something with Acadiana Works, which takes kids and gets them jobs. They pay them and they pay for any insurance they need to have. We were too late to do it this year, but hopefully next year we will be able to do work with them. I was thinking that this would be a good job for them. They could pick up the trash before the town cuts the grass. I will be talking with them more about this.”
The council agreed that this could be a good way to handle the trash problem in Pine Prairie.
Other items approved were:
• Payment of monthly expenditures.
• Ratification of the variance that was approved by the Zoning Commission on October 6, 2016 for Keith Clark to reside in a camper for a period of 90 days while renovating his home.
