A total of 19 local residents qualified this week for the March 5, 2016 election.
A total of seven people have thrown their names into the political ring to become the next Mamou Chief of Police. Those include: Charles Perdices, Brent Zackery, Armond “A.J.” Benoit Jr., Ricky James McGee, Katina Richard, Chris Godeaux and Lucas A. Lavergne who all qualified during the three-day period that ended on Friday.
The position became open after former chief Robert McGee, who won election in 2014, resigned in October due to a federal investigation into tasering inmates by Mamou Police Department officials.
Allen Noel has served as interim police chief since then but opted not to seek election.
Three candidates for Village of Chataignier Police Chief filled out their necessary paperwork this week as well. Those three seeking that position are Joseph Clint Brasseaux, McDaniel “Big Mac” Wilson and Elliot N. Thomas.
That position became available after the unexpected death of longtime chief Paul Allen Jr. back in August.
Derryl Glyn Brunet meanwhile will become the Ward 3 Justice of the Peace as he ran unopposed for the position.
In addition to Brunet winning the Ward 3 race, four other individuals won spots on state committees as those four faced no opposition. Those include:
Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine as the Democratic State Central Committee, 38th Representative District, Office “A” member.
Turkey Creek Mayor Heather Miley Cloud will serve on the Republican State Central Committee, 28th Senatorial District, Division “A” member.
Evangeline Parish Tax Assessor Dirk Deville meanwhile will serve as the Democratic State Central Committee, 38th Representative District, Office “B” member.
Warren James LaFleur Jr. will serve as the Republican Parish Executive Committee, District 1 member.
Jimmy LaFleur meanwhile will face off with Toni Aguillard for both the Republican State Central Committee, 28th Senatorial District, Divison “C” and the Republican State Central Committee, at Large member spots.
Chasity Vidrine and Marty Fruge will also run against one another for the Democratic Parish Executive Committee, at Large member spot.
If none of the races are decided out right on March 5, there will be a runoff on April 9.
