On Monday, third and fourth grade students across the state of Louisiana will sit down to take their biggest test of the year - LEAP (Louisiana Educational Assessment Program).
Over the course of five days, students will have their mind tested by questions from the English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Social Studies subjects.
With all of that to worry about, Ville Platte Elementary’s students decided to let loose and have a little fun on campus before the biggest moment of the year arrives and the real work begins.
During a special pep rally at VPE on Friday, the third and fourth grade students (the only students at VPE that will begin testing Monday) ran through special signs that were made by faculty members while the students in the other grades cheered them on.
Shonda Brooks, who is the founder of Family Strong Foundation in Church Point, then gave a motivational speech to the students preparing for the big test.
Brooks said, “Be sure when you take that test, you prove that you haven’t been here waisting your time.
“Relax going in and be confident, because you got this.”
She then gave the students some tips on how they can prepare for the test themselves such as getting the proper amount of sleep, eating a healthy breakfast before school each day, and making sure to listen to directions.
During her speech, Brooks also reminded students that what they are doing is for their teachers too.
Brooks said, “You’ve done a great job so far, but they need this picture to show that your teachers rock. The state doesn’t know how great your teachers are unless you show them on that test Monday. So, I want you to do the best job possible.”
Brooks then closed her motivitional speech by stating, “Just remember, you’ve got this.”
