VPPD makes two arrests for vehicle break-ins at SHS

On Wednesday, Ville Platte Police Chief, Neal Lartigue, reported that several recent vehicle break-ins have resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Nakaya Joseph and one black male juvenile.
In a release from the Ville Platte Police Department it stated that “on Tuesday, September 9, 2017, officers and detectives with the VPPD responded to a report a break in of two vehicles in a parking lot of a school on East Main Street.”
The school where the break ins occurred was Sacred Heart High School.
According to the VPPD release, “Upon arrival, detectives learned that the suspect had broken a side window with a brick or rock and had stolen a Coach purse, a wallet and approximately $200.00 in cash.”
In the release, it further explained that “on Friday, September 15, 2017, officers responded to a report of multiple vehicles that were broken into at the same location.”
According to the release, a “witness heard glass breaking and observed a black female and a black male run from the area.”
At around the time that the report of the incident was made, “officer’s in the area observed a black female and a black male run from the area.”
Officers were able to “locate the suspects that fled and detain them.”
It was later determined that a total of “four vehicles were broken into at that location.”
According to the release, “side windows were broken, vehicle mirrors and door handles were damaged and cash and purses were taken.”
The juvenile involved in committing these crimes was released to the custody of his parents until his court appearance.
Joseph, of 116 East Lincoln Road, has been charged with one count of criminal mischief, four counts of simple burglary, and three counts of criminal damage to property.
After being booked into the city jail, Joseph was then transported to the parish jail where she remains incarcerated on a $39,000.00 bond.
