Mamou man dies in motorcycle crash

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 10 near Gretta Lane which claimed the life of a Mamou man.

According to investigating troopers, shortly before 11:30 a.m., 49-year-old Johnny Buxton Jr. of Mamou, was driving a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle west on LA Highway 10. For reasons still under investigation, Buxton traveled off the right side of the road and struck the embankment of a private driveway. Buxton, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. A short time after arriving at the hospital, Buxton died as a result of his injuries.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
