Margaret Perron Johnson

A memorial mass was celebrated for Margaret Perron Johnson, 86, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 3.

Ms. Johnson died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at her residence following a long illness. She was valedictorian of Sacred Heart High School’s Class of 1943, and graduated cum laude from The College of the Sacred Heart at Grand Coteau in 1947. Thereafter, she was an educator in Evangeline Parish, having taught at Pine Prairie High School, Chataignier High School and Sacred Heart High School. She worked with the Evangeline Parish School Board as a certified Second Language Specialist with the Title VII Bilingual Program until her retirement. For a brief time, when her husband Jesse Johnson was called to war, she served in his place as Evangeline Parish Tax Assessor.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Johnson and his wife, Sharon, and Tim Johnson and his wife, Mona; four daughters, Madeleine Martin and her husband, George Jr., Mary Naquin and her husband, Drew, Rebecca Buller and her husband, Steve, and Jessica Norman and her husband, Dennis; five siblings, James E. Perron, Dr. Roderick P. Perron, Elizabeth Stephenson, Patricia Ortego and Elaine Mula; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Johnson; one son, Jesse John Johnson Jr.; an infant daughter; and her parents, Eddie and Mable Perron.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Saturday, August 3, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church meeting room from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation.

The Johnson family extends its deepest gratitude to Ms. Johnson’s caregivers, especially Sheila Fontenot and the members of Hospice of Acadiana.
