Noelie Claire Fontenot Whittington

BAYOU CHICOT - Funeral services will be held for Noelie Claire Fontenot Whittington, 81, at  the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 25. Burial will follow in the Vandenburg Cemetery in Bayou Chicot.
A loving mother, wife, daughter and proud “Momo” and “Maw-lee,” Mrs. Whittington died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, in Lafayette. Born Noelie Claire Fontenot on December 10, 1931, in Ville Platte, she was the only child of Maurice and Royale Fusilier Fontenot. She was a long-time resident of Bayou Chicot, where she was employed for many years with the Evangeline Parish School Board. She loved music and could play the piano and sing. She also enjoyed sewing and would make nearly all the clothes for herself and her six children. She had a fondness for young children, first working for the Community Action Agency Head Start Program, and then eventually owning her own nursery school while pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Terry W. Whittington; four sons, Noel Perez and his wife, Linda, and David Haiko and his wife, Lori, all of Lafayette, Joseph “Joey” Haiko and his wife, Lynn “Binky,” of Sulphur, and Mark W. Whittington of Bayou Chicot; two daughters, Monica Whittington of Lafayette and Kristi Campbell and her husband, Marvin, of Mamou; seven grandchildren, Terri, Duston, Cort, Hannah, Zane, Summer and Magen; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Royale Fusilier Fontenot; one granddaughter, Allyson; and one great-granddaughter, Zoe.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte today, October 24, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m., and again on Friday, October 25, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Heart of Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Father Mitchell Guidry will officiate.
