MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Rodney Fontenot, 84, of Baton Rouge, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 20. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Mausoleum.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Mr. Fontenot died Friday, August 15, 2014, at his residence. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Mamou and was a volunteer fireman. He was also an honorary fireman.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anita Soileau Fontenot of Baton Rouge; two children, Aaron Fontenot and his wife, Mona, of Dallas, Texas, and Carla Verges and her husband, Creighton, of Baton Rouge; and one sister, Beverly McBride and her husband, Bill, of Mamou. He was further blessed with six grandchildren, Cade Verges and his wife, Lizzy, Cary Verges and his wife, Amy, Caylin Verges, Ian Fontenot and his wife, Jessica, and Mia and Claire Fontenot; and one great-grandchild, Carter Verges. They were the absolute light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hadley Gus and Nita Fontenot; and one daughter, Judalane Fontenot.
His granddaughters brought up the offerings and gifts.
Pall bearers were, Cade Verges, Cary Verges, Ian Fontenot, Phil Vanderhider Jr., Bill McBride, Rene Hebert, Dr. Herman Soong and Bruno Alexandre.
