Mamou 12U PONY all-stars earn World Series bid

The Mamou 12U PONY all-stars will be competing for the national title starting on July 15 in Highlands, Texas.
Mamou earned that bid by placing first at the PONY Regional tournament held this past weekend in Youngsville. Mamou braved the weather conditions and their opponents to go 3-0 in the tournament.
Mamou outscored their opponents 43-0 in the three games played. Mamou collected 22 hits, 10 for extra bases. In the mean time, the Mamou pitching staff only allowed a total of eight base runners the entire tournament.
In game one, Mamou came out of the gate looking to put away Opelousas early in a 13-0 win. Mamou scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on five more runs in the second inning to go up 8-0.
Opelousas managed only a single runner in their first two at bats. Mamou plated the final three runs in the top of the third inning.
Game two on Friday was much of the same, as Mamou took a 10-0 win over Crowley.
Mamou jumped on Crowley in the first inning, scoring five runs on two hits, both triples. Mamou pitcher Sophia Fritz stymied Crowley in the opening frame, striking out three of the first four batters she faced.
Mamou added five more runs in the second inning, patiently drawing four walks to aid in the scoring.
The only game on Saturday for Mamou was a blistering 20-0 win over Jennings.
Mamou batted around in the first inning, scoring eight runs on six hits. The Evangeline Parish squad tacked on two more runs in the second inning.
Mamou decisively put the game away in the third inning as they plated 10 runs on seven hits, including four doubles.
Fritz was a walk away from a perfect game, striking out seven of nine.
