PINE PRAIRIE -- With playoff implications on the line, the Pine Prairie Panthers are in a must win situation from here on out for the rest of the season.
The Panthers, the No. 24 seed coming into Friday night’s game needed a victory to keep those post-season hopes alive.
Unfortunately, Pine Prairie could not sustain the momentum gained during their two game winning streak, as they fell to the Eunice Bobcats here Friday night 27-13.
The Panthers now fall to 3-4 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Pine Prairie will next travel to Prairie Rhonde to take on the Northwest Raiders this coming Friday night.
Pine Prairie gave it all they had against Eunice. The Panthers fell behind 6-0 early when the Bobcats scored on a Dameon Frank five yard run late in the first quarter.
Eunice got back on the board at the 8:53 mark of the second quarter with a six yard run by Avery Lee. After the extra point, the Bobcats took a 13-0 lead into the locker room.
The Panthers, however, did not go away easily. Pine Prairie made it very interesting, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter, while holding Eunice scoreless.
The first Panther touchdown came on a 22 yard run by Darrien Hayes with only 1:49 gone in the third period. The second score was produced when JJ Sims blasted his way for a 65 yard punt return. After going one for two on extra points, the game was knotted at 13-13.
But, Eunice was able to flip the momentum back to their side down the stretch scoring once in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter to finish off the Panthers.
On the night Pine Prairie colleted 225 yards of total offense, all on the ground. Sims picked up 134 yards on 19 carries, while Hayes produced 83 yards on 12 rushing attempts.
The Bobcats rolled up a total of 345 yards of offense on the night.
