Wesley Fontenot (15) and the SHHS offense will be tested by the Hornets.

Road trip fiesta begins for Sacred Heart

The Trojans are hitting the road and won’t be back in Ville Platte until the playoffs, providing their earn a home game in the first round. For the first time since week two, SHHS will face a team that has won more than two games. The Hornets of Pointe Coupee Catholic are 3-4 on the year, but still have yet to earn a win in District 5-1A. The Trojans are 2-0 in league play, and 4-2 overall. While both schools are somewhat similar, they are coming off of different situations
The Trojans have won four straight and have put up some big numbers in their last four games. They have scored 30 points or more in the last four games and pitched three out of four shutouts. In short, the Trojans are beating the teams they are supposed to. Now, it’s time they do it one more time.
The Hornets have lost three straight including big losses to district opponent St. Ed’s and Pointe Coupee Central. The Blue Jays slapped the Hornets with a 63-34 defeat and then the Cougars followed with a 56-14 spanking. Now the Hornets will look to stop the bleeding and get that first league win. The Trojans, on the other hand, are looking to keep their momentum going as they head into next week’s contest with the Hornets.
Sacred Heart took care of False River in a hurry last week at their homecoming game. The Trojans put up over 325 yards of offense and held the winless Gators to 78 yards. If SHHS can come out and go right after the Hornets, it could subdue to the home.
Catholic of PC is averaging 23 points a game on offense and they do a good job of mixing up the pass and the run. This shouldn’t throw off a speedy and aggressive defense that has SHHS playing well, allowing just 61 points in 2013.
Offensively, Sacred Heart’s getting great output from various players. Jacob Barnes collected 118 yards last week and Wesley Fontenot threw for 45 yards on eight completions.
If playing in Ville Platte, this game would easily point to the Trojans. However, playing in Pointe Coupee will be tough.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Point Coupee Catholic.
