Ville Platte High School will be hosting a youth football clinic today at the Ville Platte High stadium. The clinic will start at 8 a.m. and finish at 5 p.m. The clinic is free and open to kids ages 6-14. The first 100 kids to show up at the camp will receive a free camp T-shirt.
Bulldog head coach Jorie Randle came up with the idea of the camp as a way to give back to the supporters of Ville Platte High football.
“I thought the camp would be looked at as a team community service project,” stated Randle. “We wanted to do something for the kids. They support us by coming to the games on Friday night and have an interest in the program. The varsity players are going to help with the camp as a way of showing their appreciation to the community.”
The camp will have the usual attributes of a typical football camp. The participants will run through a series of football drill in the morning, with the help of the coaching staff and the players. However, part of the afternoon session will be dedicated to sending a positive message to the kids.
“After a free lunch in the cafeteria, we will have guest speakers to come and talk to the kids about good decision making,” said Randle. “We are finding that our youth today are not always making the right choices. So, we have invited people from inside and outside the community to address this important subject.”
Among those that are scheduled to speak at the clinic are members of the National Guard, assistant ULL football coach Jorge Munoz and assistant Washington-Marion football coach Terence Cahee. Cahee played defensive back atMcNeese State University. Along with decision making, the topic of character building will also be talked about.
Randle wants to encourage all parents to send their kids.
