Three Ville Platte residents arrested for shoplifting in Eunice

Four, alleged shoplifters – who are thought to be kin – were charged with taking a “five-finger discount” at the Walmart in Eunice on Thursday.

Three female subjects and one male subject were the subject of a reported shoplifting phone call to the Eunice Police Department by Walmart employees – who had detained one member of the Leday family, Laquanna Leday, as a suspect before being arrested and charged by police.

Walmart employees, according to police radio logs, informed police that all of the suspects split up as they set out across the Walmart parking lot, casually fleeing the scene of their alleged crimes in different directions.

According to police radio logs, the Walmart employees said that the only male suspect was carrying a baby as he fled the scene, heading toward Hibbet Sports – which is across the way from the Walmart parking lot.

Officers then located the male suspect, Keyloa Leday, and apprehended near Hibbett Sports.

Shortly thereafter, Latoya Leday was located and apprehended near Cato’s.

If the alleged criminal masterminds – who range in age from 17 to 26 years – had a getaway vehicle for their caper, it came in the form of a white Jeep with a temporary license plate, according to the police radio log.

Police then identified the Jeep which crossed Highway 190 and was located on Stanford Road.

The driver, or “wheel woman,” Kayla Leday, was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license and was apprehended.

The first individual detained, Laquanna Leday, had $85.39 worth of stolen merchandise in her possession when detained.

Keyloa Leday had $44.14 worth of stolen merchandise in his possession.

The driver, Kayla Leday, had $254 worth of stolen merchandise in her possession.

Latoya Leday did not shoplift but was charged with principal to theft by shoplifting for assisting with the activities, police said.

All four individuals were released by summons after booking.

As most of the Leday family arrested at Walmart were from Ville Plate, it should be noted that last week The Eunice News ran a similar story involving two sisters, also from Ville Platte, who allegedly shoplifted nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise from the same Eunice Walmart.

Those arrested on Thursday are as follows:

•Kayla Monique Leday, 26, 247 Charles Street, Palmetto; theft of goods - shoplifting, driving under suspension.

•Laquanna Leday, 25, 1314 Morrison Avenue, Ville Platte; theft of goods - shoplifting.

•Latoya Leday, 23, Ville Platte; principle to theft.

•Keyloa Leday, 17, 1340 Morrison Avenue, Ville Platte; theft of goods- shoplifting
