Boogity-boogity street gets fixed
CONCRETE makes strong pavement — old-timers say this stretch on East Bridge Street in St. Martinville has been here since the early 1940s — but without adequate support, whole sections of it can become unstable and create a serious road hazard. DOTD district engineer Bill Fontenot says these loose sections are being replaced with materials to stabilize the roadbed and asphalt pavement. The likely culprit here is increased traffic, especially the proliferation of 18-wheelers hauling cane, and the frequent moistening of the soil by stormwater runoff from the cemetery. Fontenot said the work should be completed sometime this week.
