The LSU Lady Tigers showed just how far their program has advanced after rallying from a one game deficit in the Super Regionals to take a 2-1 series win over James Madison and advance to thier second Women’s College World Series in a row.
Despite taking the lead twice in the opening game, the Lady Tigers allowed the James Madison Lady Dukes back into the game.
James Madison fought hard and rallied back, getting a walk-off bases-loaded single with two outs in the seventh to take the 3-2 win.
Facing the end of their season, LSU got a seven-inning, five-hit shutout in the circle from Allie Walljasper and scored both of its runs in the fourth inning to earn a 2-0 win over No. 8 James Madison to force a winner-take-all game.
LSU opened the rubber match game, going ahead 1-0 after one inning of play.
James Madison answered with a single run in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
However, LSU put together a two-run fifth to take the lead for good.
James Madison tried to mount a comeback, plating a single run in the bottom of the fifth. But, the Lady Tigers used tremendous defense and pitching to hold on to the win.
“I’m proud of our team. In our fight song they call us the Fighting Tigers and I feel like that something we’ve really taken on as a team,” said head coach Beth Torina.
LSU will face Michigan in the first game tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
