Heritage Manor News: Building spiritual growth

Spirituality is defined in many different ways. Our individual journey to maintain spiritual wellness is highly personal and unique. As we grow older, evidence indicates that our beliefs become more important in our lives. Prayer and meditation become a big part of our daily lives as well. It gives us a sense of purpose, meaning of life, personal ethics of daily living and teaches us how to experience joy, love and fulfillment. You can’t control what happens to you and around you, but you can control how you respond to the situation. Say yes to joy, forgiveness, compassion and love. Hope is an important element of spirituality and can be used as a means of coping. Humor can also be a coping tool in difficult times. It increases the body’s ability to heal and tolerate pain. Life changes and losses of life increase in later life. Religious services, bible study and prayer time help to lead healing. We are blessed at Heritage Manor to have spiritual leaders that devote their time to the residents on a regular basis.
This week, we will be honored to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Come Lord Jesus group. On Friday, August 21, following 10 a.m. mass, a celebration will be held in the activity room. The group was formed by Verna Guillory and she has dedicated the last 35 years, along with her group members, to assuring the continued spiritual leadership for the residents at Heritage Manor. She has served under the leadership of several priests and has gotten to know hundreds of our past and present residents and their families. We salute Mrs. Verna and all of our spiritual leaders.
