A cold case involving felony rape was recently solved by the Mamou Police Department.
With the reopening of this case, the MPD was able to arrest Wilson James Vallery for two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of first degree rape.
According to the MPD, investigations in this matter began when these acts were reported in June of 2014, but when investigators at the time “ran into a dead end” the case was closed.
The MPD Assistant Chief of Police Phyllis Soileau said, “Officer Brandon Stagg and I decided to reopen this case, and with the help of Chief Brent Zackery we began looking into the evidence that we had from 2014.”
The case was re-opened four weeks ago, and according to Stagg, “Once we had enough evidence to build a case, we issued a warrant for the arrest of Wilson Vallery.”
Vallery, who was currently living in Church Point, was arrested by Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies on May 20, 2016 and was transported to and booked in Mamou’s jail.
Vallery, who was only a resident in Mamou for approximately five months in 2014, was later transferred to the Evangeline Parish jail, and remains incarcerated on a $125,000.00 bond.
Other recent felony arrests that have been made in Mamou are:
Varnell Green, 716 3rd St., Mamou, was arrested on May 19, 2016 for aggravated assault.
Rayburn Lloyd Guillory, 1982 Lanse De Cavalier, Ville Platte, was arrested on May 21, 2016 for attempted simple kidnapping and open container.
Darren James Guidry, 1187 Duralde Hwy., Eunice, was arrested on May 21, 2016 for possession of a schedule I narcotic (marijuana) and drug paraphernalia.
