VPPD makes drug arrest; EPSO catches escapee

A traffic stop leads to drug arrest for the Ville Platte Police Department.
Richard Fontenot 43, of 612 Reed Street, Ville Platte was arrested and charged with possession of schedule I narcotics with intent to distribute (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with expired MVI and driving with a suspended license after being pulled over during a traffic stop on July 1. Fontenot was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on a $35,000.00 bond set by Judge Ortego.
VPPD responded to a report of theft from a local business on South Chataignier Street on July 21. Detective Larry Fontenot was assigned to the case and stated that a male subject reportedly cashed a fraudulent check for a large sum of money at the business. After further investigation and evidence collected a warrant was issued for Demetrius Jack.                    
Jack was arrested on unrelated charges in another parish and was then extradited on July 21, 2015 to the Ville Platte City Jail where he was booked on a $10,000.00 cash bond set by Judge Gary J. Ortego.
Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s office apprehended an inmate who escaped Sunday morning.
Zachery Deville, 22, inmate at the Southwest Louisiana Correctional Center, was taken into custody after a 14 hour man hunt. Sheriff Eddie Soileau said in a release that Deville was located and captured in a wooded area between Royal and Lake Cove Roads in Ville Platte.
Deville surrendered to authorities safely and without incident. The investigation in this incident is ongoing.
